This year’s fall signing day on Nov. 12 featured three exceptional seniors, both on and off the field. Two women’s soccer players and a men’s baseball player. Mady Linenkugel, Brooke Woosley, and Wil Kraus have shown true dedication and maintained a balance between sports and academics. They have been recognized and awarded the chance to play at the next level.
Linenkugel is a four-year varsity player for the women’s soccer team. She was a quintessential defender for the Lady Scots. As a defender, Linenkugel had eight goals and 13 assists, which you don’t see very often. She has accumulated numerous accolades with the team, including Southwest Ohio Division One Player of the Year, three GMC Champion titles, two All-Ohio Team awards, three GMC First Team awards, a GMC Second Team award, and two Oak Hills MVPs. Linenkugel is committed to the University of Louisiana Division One. We asked Linenkugel if there were any other factors other than her sport when choosing the college. She said, “There were a lot of other factors when picking my college. I always wanted to go South and far away, and wanted a bigger college for fun football games and other sports games.”
Woosley is a first-year varsity player for the women’s soccer team. Woosley is a necessary defender for the team. She has one goal. Woosley was a helpful player for the team’s ten shutouts this season. Woosley is committed to Division Two Wilmington College in Ohio. We asked Woosley how excited she was to get this opportunity. She replied, “I’m extremely excited and happy to have this opportunity. This has been my dream since I was little, and now I finally get to live it.”
Kraus is a multiple varsity sport athlete, but chose to play baseball and was a four-year varsity player. He is an infielder/utility player for the team. Kraus has been in the top five for GMC batting averages for the last two years. He has also had two first-team GMC awards and has four home runs. Kraus is committed to Division One Wright State College in Ohio. We asked Kraus what hardships he has faced that have helped him move on to the next level. He had this to say: “Being a top player in the area, I have been playing on top teams with the top players in the country. So on this team, I don’t play as much as I normally have been, like an every game, every inning player, and it has taught me to be a better teammate. Even on the bench, I play a role and can impact a game.”
If you take any advice from these three people, it’s that hard work will pay off, and you will be rewarded for it. You never know, you might be on the next signing day.
