As prom is approaching, it can be a fun time for many, yet at the same time, wildly stressful. In preparation for the big event, there are a lot of purchases students and parents have to make. Specifically for girls, they not only buy the dress but also heels and sometimes makeup or hair updos. Not to mention the $50 prom ticket at hand. Between all of these expenses, prom can become more stressful than actually fun, which is why this year, Ms. Jacobs and Mrs. Firsich decided to advertise the nonprofit organization Kenzies Closet.
Kenzie’s Closet is a nonprofit organization that collects prom necessities, such as heels, dresses, and other accessories. They provide these items to high school students who are in financial or personal need at no cost. Turning an event that can be stressful back to its purpose of a fun night with friends. The organization prioritizes certain values, including respect, inclusion, and enthusiasm. They expect respect for all customers when in their store, along with zero judgment and a comforting environment.
To get an item from Kenzie’s Closet, you have to apply, which you can do by visiting their website and referring yourself or by using a traditional referral packet. Once you apply, they will verify the information with a school administrator or social worker. On shopping day, if you are eligible, you will receive a dress, 2 pieces of jewelry, a purse, and heels. The best thing about the dress is that there are actually on-site alterations if needed. You are also assigned a personal shopper on shopping day, who will help you find the dress of your dreams. That day, you will get to leave with everything you picked out (unless major alterations are needed) and all items are yours to keep.
With all of this, Kenzie’s Closet is doing major things to help girls. This organization is all for support and excitement towards prom! Their goal is to hopefully turn a stressful time into the fun it can be.
