While the future may seem uncertain, the Oak Hills Class of 2026 remains undaunted. With around six weeks left until graduation, many seniors have already made their decision regarding what university, job, or military branch they intend to pursue. Here’s the breakdown.
From coast to coast, north to south, Highlanders will be found. Commitments this year range from as far westward as the University of Oregon, Regent University (Virginia) to the east, as far south as Florida Gulf Coast University, and reaching as north as Chicago State University. Over 300 seniors plan to attend either a four-year or two-year university after graduation.
Not surprisingly, the University of Cincinnati-Main Campus seems to be the pipeline for post-secondary education for the Highlanders. Besides it’s close proximity, strong sports programs, vibrant campus, state-of-the-art equipment, and large presence of Oak Hills Alumni, a major reason for it’s prominence among graduates is its affordability. The Bearcat Affordability Grant offers 100% free tuition for any Ohio resident with an annual household income under $75,000. Students will have to maintain their eligibility by semester, but this grant offers a vast array of students an easy decision regarding where to commit, as why would someone turn down free tuition? Among the Class of ‘26 Top 10%, around half have already committed to UC. Other popular locations include Ohio University, Ohio State, Mount St. Joseph, Miami (OH), and NKU.
Outside of college, there are plenty of seniors who have great career paths for the future. 61 are planning on entering the workforce straight out of high school, 39 have apprenticeships set up, and two will attend a trade school. From the Air Force, Army, Navy, Marines, and the National Guard, 14 Highlanders are preparing to enlist in the different branches of the military to serve and protect our nation. 42 students have even opted for a gap year, hoping to either work or explore before heading off to college.
High school is a very crucial part of someone’s life. Making friends, attending school dances, learning to drive, taking college classes, trying a new hobby or sport, going to school events, all of this is an experience I hope everyone got to enjoy during their four years here. Wherever the Class of ‘26 goes after graduation, the hope is that their years at Oak Hills have positively impacted them and prepared them for their future.
