Aiden Spangler is the perfect mix of music and sports. He began his band obsession when he was just a fifth grader playing the Alto Saxophone. He picked up the stick for Lacrosse when he was in Kindergarten playing for OHYA. While having to be in Band and Lacrosse he still has to balance academics which he has taken five AP classes and holds an impressive 4.20 GPA.

Spangler has been in the Band here at Oak Hills for all four years. He plays the saxophone and has many achievements under his belt with the band, including musician of the year and multiple superior awards for solos. Mr. Sweatman the band teacher has this to say about what Aiden adds to the band “Aiden adds a very high level of musicianship. Aiden is a talented saxophone player, performing as 1st chair in our top 3 ensembles (Honors Ambassador Jazz Band, Honors Wind Ensemble, & Honors Symphony Orchestra). Because of this, the level of emotional depth and musicianship he portrays in his playing is well beyond his years.”

Not just a musician, he is also an athlete- and a crazy one at that. He has been playing lacrosse for the Scots since freshman year. Spangler has scored 29 goals and six assists already this season in just six games. Some people only score one goal in a game but not Aiden. He has broken the record for most goals in a game scoring 12 against LaSalle. The last person to hold this record was Christian Vanover in 2019 against Taylor High School. His Coach, DJ Dunn, had this to say about Spangler being a necessity to the team: “Aiden is a big part of our offense, the way he can move in transition, he has a very good feel for the game, and his ability to make tough shots is a big addition for us”. Dunn also mentions that Spangler is a more reserved and less talkative kid, but has gotten better in his senior year.

Spangler’s impressive 12-goal record

You don’t see it very often, but Spangler is a prime example of the music world and the athletic world colliding. Even if he is a quieter person, all of his accomplishments and accolades do all the talking for him.
