“Don’t tempt me with a good time.” This quote from the show is the whole premise. Can girlfriends resist temptation when not with their boyfriend, and vice versa with the boyfriends? The new season of Temptation Island was released on April 10th. Every season of this show centers around four couples that all have had some sort of problem in their relationship, either infidelity, lying, or maybe just not feeling like the perfect person for each other. They come on this show separately and live with a bunch of people from the opposite gender to be tempted. This season was very hard to get through, but it had many redeeming qualities.
Temptation Island shows the relationships between Kaylee Needham (24) and Summit Wallace (25), Sydney McGregor (24) and Mikey Bivens (24), Shyanne Blankenship (23) and Jack Mason (25), and Scarlett Bentley (29) and Cole Mueller (27). During the process, the girlfriends interact with the 12 single men, they are left in a house from and in the separate house, the boyfriends interact with 12 single women in a different house. Every couple of days, each group watches at a bonfire what the other people have been doing at the other house. During this bonfire, is when they get updates on whether they are cheating or talking poorly about their significant other. At the end, they choose to either leave together, leave alone, or leave with a single person they met during their time on the show.
This season of Temptation Island was a hard watch for one main reason: everyone seemed to be either there for their five minutes of fame or not the right reasons. Spoiler Alert. Many of the couples seemed as though they were looking for a reason not to leave the island with their significant other. Due to this, many people cheated early on and gave up on their partner. During the bonfires, people would say they were done or did not care anymore.
The best part of this show is the host, Mark Walberg. The host at the bonfires would make them express their feelings and give them counseling. He talked them through all of their grief with their partners and how to be a better person through it all. His daughter commented, “The reason he is so kind to the cast is that he eventually sees them as his own kids to take care of.” When Mark sees that the cast is down, he tries to remind them they are on this show; to become better not only for the relationship but for themselves as well. Also, a saving grace for this show was the single boys; they did not try to make the girls in relationships feel uncomfortable. They sat there and listened to them instead of trying to make a move.
Although many couples separated at the final bonfire, the show did work for one couple. Out of 5 stars, I would give this season a 3 out of 5, because although it was pretty cringy, the host and single boys were the best part of the show. The two points off were mostly from the single girls and boys in relationships being rude to the girls in the other house. The people who would enjoy this show and I would recommend to watch is, to people who love a messy reality TV show that doesn’t feel like actual reality because no one would do this for fun.
