Robin Jacobs is more than just an educator; she’s a true mentor and a source of unwavering support. Her classroom isn’t just a place for kids to come in every day and do the same thing over again. Her classroom is a place where students feel seen, heard, and genuinely cared for. She builds connections with her students so they never feel as though they are doubted. This special bond creates an environment where challenges are overcome with positivity and confidence. She is an admired teacher in the science department, and her name continues to be brought up in such a positive manner.
When speaking with one of Jacobs’ past students, Emily Hoog, who is a senior at Oak Hills, she says, “I felt very supported, and was happy to be in her classroom every day.” Through Jacobs’ genuine interest and striving to be the best teacher possible, she creates a profound sense of belonging. Jacobs wants her students not only to excel academically but also to develop confidence within themselves and build a foundation of support. Her classroom is a place where growth is celebrated and struggle is recognized. Hoog speaks about how Jacobs is always very supportive of growth, and Hoog specifically keeps this statement of “a test does not define you” in her mind because the support always stuck with her.
When speaking with a current student of Jacobs, Emma Tharp, who is a junior at Oak Hills, she explains that “Mrs. Jacobs creates a very inclusive and supportive environment in the classroom.” She’s always open to any questions and will make the classroom a place where students feel comfortable and are excited to come in every day. Her energy and positivity that her students experience when they walk into her classroom is different from other educators because she has such a positive attitude with her students and is always willing to make their day better with a joke. She is never at her desk because she is always ready to help out a student in need. When talking to Tharp, she explains that “We work better in groups.” She says this because Jacobs is always open to letting you sit by your peers so that you can collaborate together and feel comfortable in the classroom. She offers multiple study options, whether it’s coming in before school on test day to review, flexing in x-bell, or coming in during study hall.
It’s evident to all of her students that Jacobs goes above and beyond to make sure they feel prepared and comfortable with the information on tests. She has a bond with her students like no other. Not only does she go the extra mile to make her students feel comfortable and prepared in the classroom, but she often attends her students’ sporting events or outside school activities because that’s the kind of teacher she is. She is someone who takes time to really get to know her students and go beyond the academic aspect of them. So when someone mentions the name Jacobs, you should think of a true role model and a teacher striving to be the best possible educator and person she can.
