Who’s excited for prom this year? For the past few years, prom has been held at Union Terminal, a fan favorite for its gorgeous ceiling mosaics and beautiful architecture. However, this year, the magical night is being hosted at the Lawrenceburg event center. The prom theme this year is an enchanted garden, and it is on April 25th. Many students have been expressing their concern about the new location because of the underwhelming architecture and unfamiliarity. While some are disappointed by this, the Lawrenceburg Event Center actually offers advantages that will help make the night enjoyable. Its more comfortable environment and better use of space will give students room to dance, socialize, and experience the theme, which will ultimately make prom a great night.
The Lawrenceburg Event Center is located in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, adjacent to the Ohio River. The building appears pretty bland on the outside and doesn’t have any unique features that stand out, unlike Union Terminal’s famous dome architecture.
Luna Trisko, a Junior at Oak Hills, explains, “The new location looks dull compared to the grandness of Union Terminal,” and adds, “A lot of Juniors, including me, were looking forward to our first prom being at Union Terminal.”

For juniors, it is understandable that the new location feels disappointing because Union Terminal has such an iconic reputation. Pictures inside the event center will also be underwhelming compared to the murals and decorative ceiling of the museum center. Many students are also complaining about the long drive without any scenic views, compared to the drive to the city to Union Terminal. The change in venue also raises another question for many students: why is our prom even being held in Indiana?
While some students dislike the event center, it does offer several advantages.
Prom chair, Junior, Catherine Glogowski explains that “the center offers a better environment than Union Terminal because of the lower ceilings, which allow for better decorations, and students will be able to hear the music better.”
This will allow students to experience the theme better. Although its architecture cannot compete with Union Terminal’s, the event center will make dancing and hanging out more comfortable. Additionally, at Union Terminal, students had limited space because prom was confined to one room, whereas Lawrenceburg offers many areas to socialize, eat, and dance. For seniors, the new venue might actually feel preferable, since it gives them a different prom experience than their junior year. The event center is also located in a historic town, providing plenty of nearby options for food and photos before the dance. Some options include Strong’s Pizza, Proof 124, and 3rd and Main. In contrast, Union Terminal requires students to drive elsewhere for dinner. The event center is also located on the river, which provides an amazing photo opportunity.

Overall, even though the move from Union Terminal to the Lawrenceburg Event Center has sparked concern, the new venue has the potential to make prom just as memorable. Its better sound, lower ceilings for decorations, and more comfortable layout will help bring the enchanted garden theme to life and give students space to enjoy the night with friends. The historic town and riverfront provide great options for dinner and photos. No matter the location, prom is guaranteed to be an unforgettable night for all students!
