Last year, Oak Hills added another school dance that takes place after homecoming but before prom, the Winter Formal. This year, the Winter Formal, also known as the Snow Ball, will be on Saturday, January 31st from 7-10PM, taking place in the Commons.
Students who are interested in going can purchase tickets at lunch from January 26-30 for $20. At the dance, students can expect to see winter themed decorations, professional lighting, DJ, designated areas for dancing and photos, creating what Tabitha Toole, the organizer of the dance, calls “a safe and memorable experience for all attendees.” What’s nice about the winter formal is that it offers another dance opportunity to students, underclassmen especially. Unlike upperclassmen who get to enjoy both homecoming and prom, underclassmen have been limited to only homecoming until the addition of the Winter Formal.
With the addition of a new dance comes complications, some of which dissuade students from attending. One major example is the environment itself. A student who attended the dance last year stated that “I feel like they could have organized it better, the environment felt forced more than enjoyable.” At homecoming, tickets are $20 and students can hang out in both the commons and new gym, whereas at the winter formal students are limited to just the commons for the same price. Other reasons why some students are hesitant to attend the dance include the cost of purchasing formal clothing and the complications of trying to get friends to attend.
Whether you are planning on attending the Winter Formal or not, the dance is open to all students, and they are highly encouraged to attend.
