The wait is finally over. Director James Cameron puts another blockbuster under his belt with the third installment of “Avatar: Fire and Ash”. With Jake Sully returning to the screen, fans ran to the theaters to watch the problems unfold in Pandora once again. The alien world of Pandora initially came to life in the 2009 movie, starring Zoe Saldaña and Sam Worthington. With the environment of Pandora being toxic to humans, these creatures completely inhabit this planet. Avatar is a fan favorite as it has an 81% Rotten Tomatoes score, and fans continue to yearn for more of these blue creatures. The new movie shows the conflict that happens between the newly introduced Ash people and their long-time rivals in the military from the human world.
You may be wondering, how could there be another “Avatar“? What would the plot even be? Lots of fans were worried that the plot was going to be repetitive and uninteresting. However, this movie hooks you from the start. With watching the lives of beloved characters and meeting new ones, Cameron keeps your attention the entire 3 hours and 17 minutes of this film. Jack Champion, who plays the human character ‘Spider’ in the “Avatar” trilogy, does a splendid job portraying the trials and tribulations of being a human in an alien world. Throughout this movie, you become empathetic toward these made-up people/aliens. Even though the length of the movie is daunting, I would suggest grabbing some popcorn, getting a nice cold drink, and settling in for a wild ride while it is still in theaters.
This movie also has the option of watching it in 3D, which I highly recommend. Although 3D tends to give me a headache personally, the amount of action and amazing CGI distracted me from a potential headache. If you want to catch up on the “Avatar” movies or need to watch them for the first time, Disney+ has the first two streaming, and “Fire and Ash” is expected to be exclusively streaming on Disney+ as well. The movie presents bright and engaging colors, making it even more cinematic. Besides the stunning motion capture and radiant lights, you can see the struggles that the nav’i people go through with humans and ash people. However, this movie specifically highlights the issues that Neytiri, played by Saldaña, has with her children being half Na’vi and half human. I think that this complicated situation was portrayed beautifully, spotlighting Saldaña’s tear-jerking acting.
So far this year, they have won the Critics’ Choice Award and the AFI Award for the new “Avatar” installment, and have been nominated for two Golden Globes. This movie was named as one of the top ten movies of 2025, and it is expected to have more movies come out in this series. “Fire and Ash” is rated pg-13, it might be seen as unsuitable for children, but in my opinion, this movie is good for all ages and genders, and is an entertaining movie to go and see with the family
