US President, Nobel Peace Prize winner, trusted man, and leader to many, Jimmy Carter is well-respected in politics and social welfare. Born on October 1, 1924, in Plains, GA, Carter was one of four children to his parents, Lillian and James Earl Carter. Carter was the oldest of his siblings but did not let his responsibility of helping his siblings diminish his ability to make a mark on the world. Pulling from sources The Carter Center and The Naval History and Heritage Command, this is the story of the legend Jimmy Carter.
Carter attended the Georgia Institute of Technology and Georgia Southwestern College, receiving a B.S. degree from the United States Naval Academy in 1946. While at the academy, he was assigned to the USS Wyoming to complete two years of surface ship duty. Soon after his achievements were increased to many, and he later served various other services which moved his rank up to a lieutenant. After being chosen to represent the nuclear submarine program in New York, he did graduate work at Union College to study nuclear physics and reactor technology. As senior officer of the second nuclear submarine, Carter was well respected in the military domain.
Carter was quite loyal not only to his military practices but also to his family. On July 7th, 1946, he married Rosalynn Smith. Carter stayed in the military until his dad, upsettingly, passed away in 1953. After his father’s passing, Carter retired from the army and returned to help his family farm in Plains, Georgia. He was quickly able to pick up the pieces his dad had left for him to carry on and became a prudent leader for the company farm. Following this he became the 76th governor of Georgia on January 12, 1971. After this, he won the first ballot in 1974 for the Democratic National Committee campaign chairman for the congressional and gubernatorial elections.
Towards the end of his political journey, Carter ran for the 1977 Presidential election. He announced his candidacy to represent his party on December 12, 1974, and was elected to be the representative for his party in 1976. The rest is history. He became the president of the United States from 1977 to 1981 and had a huge impact on helping the USA become a powerful nation and an important one to many. Carter has impacted the US to an extreme extent including significant foreign accomplishments and policies that are changed because of him. For example, Jimmy Carter was the first sitting president to visit the Sub-Saharan desert in Africa which largely affected the country’s soon-to-be population and overall health growth. Carter sent out invitations to African Leaders who were honored to be able to reciprocate and visit the US after his visit to sub-Saharan. Carter was one of the most honorable and influential Presidents and males to help the United States. Take a minute to reflect and learn from his many accomplishments.
