The Lady Scots season ended on Wednesday when they faced westside rival Seton Saints in the OHSAA in the round two district semi-final game. This game was more of a defensive battle than an offensive shootout as the final score was only 24-34.
Oak Hills had a rough start to this game just putting up 3 points in the first half giving Seton a 19-3 lead going into halftime, despite a push at the end of the game led by junior Ava Kammerer who finished with 9 points 3 rebounds and 2 assists. Seton’s defense and rebounding helped them hold on to this game, Seton grabbed 31 rebounds as opposed to Oak Hills’ 17 helping them run the clock down and keep the ball out of Oak Hills’ hands.
Kaitlyn Hess led Seton with 9 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 assist. Aubri Korfhagen contributed 7 points and was also strong under the hoop with 5 rebounds. Seton excelled at the free throw line, going 8-18, demonstrating their ability to capitalize on Oak Hills’ mistakes, who managed only 3-7 at the line. Oak Hills put up a strong fight, thanks to solid performances from senior Riley Philpot and Kammerer, but their struggles from beyond the arc stole their comeback efforts, with a shooting percentage of 15.8% from three-point range, making it difficult to rally after falling behind much.
Overall, Seton was the more consistent team, not easing up and successfully fending off Oak Hills’ late-game push. Seton will advance to the next round of tournament play while Oak Hills will start preparing for the next season. Oak Hills finished the season with a record of 11-12 and 7-9 in conference play.
