St. Patrick’s day treats: what are they like?

With Saint Patrick’s Day right around the corner, many fast food places have new items on the menu to try with green colors featured in them. Saint Patrick’s Day is a cultural and religious holiday celebrated worldwide by people of all ethnicities and religions. Some of the most popular St Patrick’s Day specials include the McDonalds Shamrock Shake, Canes Leprechaun Lemonade, Skylines Green Spaghetti, Dairy Queens Mint Crunchin Cookie Dipped Cone, and Sonics Sour Shamrock Slush.

McDonald’s Shamrock Shake is available starting on February 16th and you are able to purchase it until March 17th (St Patrick’s Day). The shake is a vanilla soft serve, with mint flavoring blended into it, topped with whipped cream. Since the shake launched in 1970, the shake has received over 60 million sales and will continue to get more sales every year.

Skylines Green Spaghetti has been a St Patrick’s Day tradition for only 14 years which is a short amount of time in comparison to the shamrock shake, which has been around for 56 years, but is still a massive success, typically selling out during its 2 day purchase span (16th and 17th of March). The dish features their 3-way, 4-way, or 5-way, served with bright green spaghetti. You can get the special in either dine in or carryout.

The Canes Leprechaun Lemonade is available starting March 9th-March 17th to celebrate the holiday. The drink is just their regular lemonade that they offer with green coloring added into it. You can purchase an in-store cup of regular lemonade or you can also purchase a special take-home jug of the green lemonade which is a gallon.

The Mint Crunchin Cookie dipped cone from Dairy Queen is a brand new item for St Patrick’s Day and this is the first year it has been offered. The cone is what it sounds like, a vanilla ice cream cone dipped in a mint flavored coating with chocolate cookie crumbles inside. The treat was first available on February 23rd, and is limited time, not announcing when it will be unavailable.

The last St Patrick’s Day treat, The Sour Shamrock Slush, from Sonic, is also in its first time being available. The Slushie launched on March 2nd, 2026 and features a green apple slush base, mixed with sour popping candy, and topped with whipped cream, and a rainbow candy on top. The drink will be unavailable to customers on March 31st, so if you are planning on trying the new treat, go before the end of the month!

All of these Saint Patrick’s Day specials are very unique and I can’t wait to try all of them to celebrate the holiday. All of these items intend to keep people excited for St Patrick’s Day and to hopefully keep them anticipating these menu items for years to come.
