As you may know, Greater’s recently released Skyline-flavored ice cream on January 27th. Many Cincinnati Skyline lovers were intrigued by this new flavor, so the dessert was sold out almost everywhere, making it hard to try for yourself. People have had many questions about the unusual flavor of the sweet and slightly salty treat. Does it actually taste like Skyline chili? Or would it be gross? So here are some opinions to consider.
The Tartan staff decided to try the newly released treat together and form our own opinions. When first opening the ice cream with classmates, my first thought was how odd it was that there were actual skyline oyster crackers in the ice cream. To me, it’s a weird phenomenon to think of chili ice cream. After trying the first bite it immediately tasted like a mix of cinnamon and pumpkin spice. Which is odd for chili, right? But then only a minute later the aftertaste of Skyline chili set in. Junior Clayton Wiegle remarked, “I thought that it was fine at first, it tasted like pumpkin. But afterward, it tasted like Skyline that I washed down with milk.” The chili taste, little did I know, would not go away for a while later. When asking fellow Tartan classmate, junior Bri Brown, what she thought of the ice cream. She claimed, “I thought the taste was really good at first, it tasted like cinnamon. But 30 seconds later, it tasted like skyline chili and it lingered there for hours.”
If you want your ice cream to taste like chili then this would be a good thing for you. But for me, it was not a favorite. When asking junior Addison Childs her opinion, she thought, “I wouldn’t choose to eat it ever again, but it wasn’t the most awful thing I’ve ever tasted.” Overall, this ice cream is not something I want to eat again, but it was fun to experience once. However, if you like Skyline, then this might be something fun for you and your family to try.
