Oak Hills has more than 45 clubs or sports, so most of them fly under the radar and go unnoticed. A major unknown club is the Esports club. Here at Oak Hills, we offer a club where gamers can show their skills or just have an outlet through gaming. Junior Alex Quintero had this to say on why he is involved in the club: “I signed up for this club because I wanted to meet people with the same interests as me and work together to achieve a common goal.”
The Esports team doesn’t just play one game. They have almost 10 games that can be played during their seasons. These include Fortnite, Overwatch, Rocket League, Marvel Rivals, Apex Legends, Chess, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Valorant. The league is holding three seasons this year, with one already passed. The winter season started on Sep. 15, and the next season registration starts on Feb. 9.
Don’t want to play, but still want to be caught up on our Esports teams? You can check the record system on the LeagueOS website. It will record all of the teams’ wins, losses, and rankings for every team in Ohio in this league. In the past, there have been more than 250 schools participating.
The leader of the group, teacher Mr. Bradrick, informed me about what a competition day looks like: “Competitions involve the teams’ captains or coaches contacting each other on Discord and arranging a time to begin. This is mandated to start by four pm. Before then, the team will gather in room 115 (Mr. Couch’s room) and set up their games on the computers provided or brought from home. At the agreed-upon time, they play the other school. Typically, matches are the best two out of three games.”
The weekly schedule looks like Mondays for Fortnite & Overwatch, Tuesdays for Rocket League & Marvel Rivals, Wednesdays for Apex Legends, Chess & Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and Thursdays for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe & Valorant. If any of this interests you, you can email Mr. Bradrick or Mr. Couch for any extra information!
