To what extent can construction affect the learning abilities of students? Oak Hills Local School District board members are making a life-changing issue for students. This includes new air conditioning systems in its old school buildings and the construction of three new schools. Mr. Brian Conners, the principal of Oak Hills High School, reports that there’s a brighter future for student learning in the coming years.
The Oak Hills community will vote on this bill on Nov. 4th, 2025. Once the bill passes, Ohio will grant 50 percent of the funds and will not increase taxes for community members. Once the bill has passed, Conners asserts that “the money will come in”. Therefore, it’s highly encouraged that the community show support for the students’ education and vote “yes”.
Phase One of the bill includes building a new Delhi Middle and Springmeyer Elementary school and adding air conditioning to Oak Hills High School. The OHLSD district board chose the first two schools to undergo construction “based on both the assessment and needs of the schools”, reported Conners. The conditions of both Delhi Middle and Springmeyer are costly to the district. For instance, Delhi Middle School, over 100 years old, doesn’t have air conditioning, and the foundation appears old, allowing for floods to occur and cause damage to the flooring, resulting in constant repairs to be done.
Mr. Jeff Brant, former superintendent of the Oak Hills local school district, played a crucial part in getting a head start on the bill issue by starting community meetings and brainstorming how to get the right amount of funding for the future construction of the district. Whereas the ideal timeframe was also brought up and said to take about three years of construction for the completion of phase one. Conners expresses a positive attitude toward benefits such as improved learning environments that this bill will bring to the district.
Conners has high hopes that this bill will help allow for better learning environments that aren’t affected by floods or rooms that are not suited for the children’s needs. Conners roots for this bill because “Kids deserve the best possible resources because the future is where they’re headed.” Don’t forget to vote on the bill and help these students get improved learning environments.
