Sophomore lacrosse player, Kennedy Schulte, has started her spring season out with a bang! Schulte recently scored three goals in the final quarter of her scrimmage against Roger Bacon High School, bringing home a win for the team.
She started her lacrosse career with inspiration from her older brother, Kaden Schulte. Once Kennedy heard that Oak Hills was starting a girl’s team while Kaden was playing, she began to practice with his sticks. She joined the OHYA recreational team during her 6th-grade year, however, COVID put an end to the season. She has consistently played since her 8th-grade year and loves every aspect of it.
Schulte’s practice schedule, in and out of season, is quite demanding. During the season, she has practice Monday through Thursday for two hours on top of two or three games weekly. On game days, she leaves home at 4:00 p.m. and doesn’t get home until 8:00 p.m., but she still manages her academic responsibilities well. During her off-season, she will walk or run her dog to stay in shape. On top of this, she plays wall ball (a drill to better passing & catching capabilities) and will sometimes pass with her friends on the fields to keep her stick skills sharp.
The Oak Hills lacrosse environment has given Schulte loads of gratitude. When asked about her relationship with the team, she explains, “The team is so goofy, and we are all friends. Last year was my first year playing for the high school, and everyone was so welcoming. It made me confident in my skills and helped me improve a lot.” She is looking forward to this season and bonding with the new team outside of practice and games to strengthen team chemistry. Schulte loves how “the bus rides are always filled with fun vibes to get us hyped up for the game, which I think helps everyone to forget about the nerves.” On top of this, her coaches “give the best feedback on what we can improve on… and give great pep talks.” Schulte enjoys the environment of Oak Hills lacrosse greatly and has enjoyed all of the memories made.
Schulte always remembers the tri-match last year, where she played more time than usual on varsity. She scored the game-winning goal for Varsity. She thinks this is the best she has ever played for JV and Varsity. To carry on from last season to the current season, Schulte will continue to set a positive example and be a critical player for the team. Her balance of love for the team and the sport will beam in Highlander nation!
